Neurofeedback can be powerful with minimal to no side effects – when done properly. While it is safe, you don’t want to waste your brain training time (and money💰) working with just anyone.
Any licensed healthcare provider can purchase the equipment and set up shop, but only some have gone through the extensive training and testing required to become Board Certified in Neurofeedback (BCN). (Be sure your provider is on BCIA’s list.) Also, some providers (even some BCNs) hook you up to the equipment and have you passively watching a movie while your brain hopefully does the work. But, while many of us use car engine metaphors for Neurofeedback (yup, guilty! I mean, they are good metaphors 🤷🏻♀️), you know you aren’t actually a car (you’re so smart!). So don’t drop your amazing brain off at the doctor and assume it’ll ❌ magically get “fixed.” Research is now showing that the HUGE results you can get from Neurofeedback happen when the provider is “Attuned” 💫 with you during the process.

Are There Side Effects to Neurofeedback?
Wait, what exactly are you doing to my brain?
Ok, no need to freak out. 🫣 Breathe.
Neurofeedback (and the other techniques in the 1-4-U Ripple Experience) aren’t doing anything invasive to your brain or body. After decades of research and clinical use, they have no known side effects.
Instead, the Neurofeedback system receives information from your brain through sensors placed on your head. The sensors receive the electrical signals put out by groups of neurons firing below the surface, but they don’t give off any signal directly back to your brain. (It’s like when you put a thermometer in your mouth – it takes a reading of the heat but it doesn’t actually do anything to your mouth).
The computer system then gives you – and your brain (even more instantaneously and subtly) – feedback based on the pattern of brain wave frequencies it sensed.
Think of it like a fun, high-tech mirror that helps you see how your brain is functioning so your brain and body can make positive changes – often on its own (but over time, you also learn how to read and adjust your own body and brain in order to get into whatever state you need).
Can Neurofeedback Make You Worse?
Rest assured, not only are Neurofeedback and the other methods we use non-invasive, they have also been extensively researched.
They are not known to have side effects, and when you work with a Board-Certified provider, you can trust that the process will be done safely, without making your current symptoms worse.
In fact, they’re designed to help your brain and body find a better balance naturally.
Sometimes, very early on in the process, you might experience some unwanted effects – like feeling slightly more tired or wired than usual for a day or so. (Good news: If this does happen, it’s usually a good sign that your brain is going to be very responsive to the feedback – Yay!)
And don’t worry—if there are unwanted effects initially, these typically resolve very quickly as we fine-tune and find your optimal frequency and training sites – a tailor-made plan just for you and your unique brain.
So, while it might seem a bit mysterious at first, remember that we’re just helping you tap into your brain’s natural ability to find balance – to get unstuck from the patterns that are tripping you up.
