Yearning for a life where trauma doesn’t overshadow your daily experiences?
If you crave a sense of peace, where you can sit quietly without feeling on edge or jumpy, and react calmly to loud noises or small problems without panicking…
If you dream of sleeping soundly through the night, waking up rested and refreshed, free from the grip of nightmares that leave you exhausted…
You’re in the right place.
And these desires aren’t just wishes—they’re absolutely worth working towards because they form the foundation of a life filled with calm, energy, and happiness.
And you deserve that.
Imagine waking up in the morning without feeling sore or tense, having the energy to dive into the activities you love – whether it’s gardening, rock climbing or playing with your kids.
You’re laughing freely, feeling genuine joy without past pain holding you back.
You’re fully engaged in social gatherings without anxiety, having deep, meaningful conversations without your mind drifting to traumatic memories, and handling small problems with ease. 💃🏽
These moments of “normalcy” and emotional freedom are what make life truly rich and fulfilling.
You deserve to:
✔️ Live a life where your past doesn’t dictate your present or future.
✔️ Trust yourself to protect your well-being.
✔️ Bounce back from setbacks quickly.
✔️ Face challenges with confidence.
✔️ Build healthy relationships, communicating openly with your loved ones.
✔️ Feel safe in your own body and out in the world.
Healing from trauma isn’t just about “working through”, “understanding” or “letting go” of the past.
It’s about embracing a future where you can thrive, feel accomplished, and be proud of what you put out into the world each day.
So, it’s a journey worth taking – because you deserve to live a life where trauma doesn’t overshadow your happiness and peace.
Why your recovery isn’t working – despite your tremendous efforts
I know it feels like you’re working so hard to heal, but sometimes it seems like no matter what you do (and do and do and do…), those old patterns Just. Won’t. Let. Go.
You’ve probably tried “powering through” with sheer willpower, only to feel exhausted and “not good enough” when it just doesn’t work. But I’m here to tell you: It’s not that you’re not trying hard enough—it’s that willpower alone isn’t enough.
Maybe you’ve tried going over what happened to you so you can “understand it better” or so you can become less “reactive” to it…
Unfortunately, talking or journaling about your trauma over and over can sometimes make things worse, as your brain and nervous system can’t always tell the difference between a memory and the present moment. Each time you recount your story, your brain relives it, reinforcing those reactive patterns and keeping you stuck in that state.
(👉🏼 To be crystal clear, I am a huge fan of talk therapy – there are many benefits. You just don’t want to spend your sessions repeating your trauma experience over and over again. And, having spent thousands of hours in therapy as a psychologist, I struggled to see any real change to my clients’ nervous systems or reaction patterns 🤷🏻♀️ – they’re just too deeply ingrained to talk your way out of them…)
Also, when it comes to relaxation techniques like yoga or muscle relaxation, I understand how frustrating it can be to feel like you’re “failing” because your body just won’t relax on command. 🧘♂️
When your nervous system doesn’t feel safe at its core – as is often the case when dealing with trauma – it’s incredibly hard to “just let go” and feel at ease.
(👉🏼 And again, as a yoga teacher I’ll be one of the first to tell you that yoga is a wonderfully effective strategy for easing anxiety, improving sleep, reducing tension and so much more – there are now loads of scientific studies on this! But it has to be done in a very specific way. Going to a yoga-for-exercise class is most likely not going to help regulate your nervous system – in fact, if you’re being told you’re doing a pose wrong or to go against what your body is telling you it needs, it may even add to a feeling of being unsafe or “not good enough” 😳)
Finally, maybe you’ve tried to stick to a sleep schedule, eat healthy, and get regular exercise, but it feels like you’re constantly battling against yourself. 🤦🏻♀️
Again, stuck brainwave patterns and your overall nervous system state are working against you, making it difficult to sustain these healthy changes.
The real path to healing is about going deeper, to the very source of those stuck patterns.
Rather than telling yourself to relax or trying to force healthy habits, it’s about rewiring those stuck brainwave patterns and making your nervous system more flexible, so it – and you – can respond with ease to whatever comes your way. 💃🏽
❌ So, it’s NOT about you not doing enough – or not doing it “right”.
It’s about understanding that the trauma has wired your brain and body in a way that requires more than just willpower and surface-level strategies.
By addressing the root causes and making deep changes, you can start to experience the peace, calm, and resilience you’ve been longing for. 💫
Healing trauma from the inside out
To truly heal from trauma, it’s essential to create lasting change at the level of your:
💫 brainwave patterns,
💫 nervous system state,
💫 physical body,
💫 AND perspective.
These areas have gotten stuck in negative and inefficient patterns, making it difficult to move forward.
By understanding and nurturing all four simultaneously, you can break free from the cycles that have held you back.
And don’t worry, it might sound complicated, but I’m here to guide you through it—you’ve got this! 😎
First, understanding your brainwave patterns is crucial. By learning to recognize and adjust these patterns, you gain more control over your mental state.
Imagine being able to focus on work without intrusive thoughts or enjoy playing with your kids without worries crowding your mind.
This awareness helps you promote states of calm, focus, and relaxation whenever you need them.
But we can’t leave out the rest of your nervous system.
After all, it’s the bridge between your brain and body, playing a crucial role in how you respond to and recover from stress.
One powerful way to make lasting change to your system is improving the communication between your heart and brain – making your entire nervous system more resilient and adaptive .
Your physical body also holds onto stress and trauma, manifesting as tension, pain, and other health issues (have you read the pioneering book How the Body Keeps the Score by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk?).
By becoming more aware of your body’s signals, you can respond to stressors more quickly and effectively. Developing this self-awareness also naturally releases tension and builds flexibility in your nervous system – making it easier to enjoy daily activities and feel comfortable in your own skin.
Lastly, shifting your perspective is key, BUT it’s most effective when combined with changes in your brain, nervous system, and body.
Simply challenging negative thought patterns and trying to cultivate more positive perspectives won’t work on their own because your brain, body, and nervous system will still react from the place where they’re stuck. And this deeper reactivity happens before your more cheery thoughts even reach your conscious awareness (and all that hard work to change them goes poof 😓).
By integrating changes in all four areas into one cohesive system, you create a foundation of self-awareness that leads to lasting change.
This way, you ensure that calm, joy, and resilience come from within, not just from external sources, and you can achieve true healing and lasting peace. ✨
Doesn’t medication help change and regulate my brain and nervous system?
So, you might be wondering, “Doesn’t medication help change and regulate my brain and nervous system?”
If so, you’re not alone. I hear this from clients all the time.
❌ It’s a common misconception that medication can heal the effects of trauma.
While medication can affect neurotransmitter systems in your brain, it doesn’t change the ingrained neural imprint left by trauma. The neuron-firing networks that create your thoughts and behaviors remain the same, even if the medication provides some temporary relief.
In fact, because you have no control over how or where the medication affects your brain, sometimes medications can send you too far in the opposite direction. For example, an anti-anxiety medication might make you feel numb or overly sleepy, which can interfere with your daily life.
Imagine needing to be alert and focused at work but feeling like you can barely keep your eyes open because of your medication. Or wanting to play with your kids but feeling too numb to engage fully.
These side effects can be just as disruptive as the anxiety itself. 🤦🏻♀️
Moreover, the effects of medication are only present while the drug is in your system. Once it wears off, you’re back to square one, often with the added challenge of your brain becoming dependent on the medication.
This reliance can make it even harder for your brain to relearn how to regulate itself naturally.
Medication doesn’t create lasting change; it’s more like a band-aid than a cure.
(👉🏼 Important Note: If you are currently taking medication, do NOT stop taking it cold turkey – this can be very dangerous! Talk with your doctor about a plan AND get other strategies in place as you wean off.)
